Anytime I am driving through Nebraska, I always stop in Lincoln to eat at Tiru. The food is delicious and healthy. The portions are plentiful and their injera is the perfect balance of sour and savory. The service is always friendly and welcoming. This restaurant is a real gem of a place.
I got the lamb wot for dinner and it was SO GOOD. I came back the next day for lunch and got the kitfo which was somehow even better! The food here is outstanding
Really good and interesting food to try that is a little outside my normal experience. Beautiful and colorful presentation. The lamb was excellent.
We came in expecting a bit of a wait and generally have a lot of patience - but did not expect to wait an entire hour and a half between giving our order and seeing a server or employee at the table again. The dining room was not busy - there were two other tables ahead of us and one who left within about ten minutes of our arrival. Based on the number of to go orders we saw leaving it appears they’re making that a priority over their in person patrons. They also brought food to a table that came in an hour after us about twenty minutes before finally bringing ours. No glasses of water were offered to us, just bottles of water to purchase. When the food finally arrived it wasn’t hot, but the flavors were delicious and it was a lot of food. They were apologetic about the wait. When we were halfway through our meal they finally brought our appetizer, which was so odd. They said it was free as a condolence. The food was delicious but I’m not sure the experience would warrant another visit. I really wanted to love this place. My recommendation is to carry out because it seems that comes with more urgency than food in person does.
The food at Tiru was absolutely incredible. We will definitely be coming here again. We started with the lentil sambusas. They had a beautiful flaky crunchy exterior, and the filling was reminiscent of a scallion pancake. For our entree, we got the vegan platter. My husband was skeptical of some of the dishes at first, but we ended up loving each and every one of them. For example, he was hesitant about the beet dish, but ended up enjoying the warm caramelized flavor. If you've never had Ethiopian coffee before, I also highly recommend you giving it a try! The flavor was complex and full of spice.
Came for dinner on a Saturday, lovely experience & food! Staff were very friendly & helpful. I wish there was more than 1 veg/vegan option (vegan platter was delicious but $20, more expensive than the other entrées), but the food was so so good. Very flavorful and I enjoyed eating with the teff injera. We were there for almost 2 hours & had a coffee for dessert (very good, strong). Though there aren’t many other things for me to try as a vegetarian, I would go again!
Really rich and flavorful food here! I got the Key Misir and they gave me the Teff Injera on the side. It was lightly spicy and the combinations of flavors was incredible. Really recommend this spot, especially if you've never tried Ethiopian food before!
Tiru was absolutely delicious. Our server was polite and informative. The only thing the restaurant was missing was Ethiopian music but I hardly noticed since we went with a group and talked anyway! It was clean, including the bathroom! I will return!
